Fall is the perfect time to wind down and relax. It follows the hot, sweaty summer, but comes just before the stress and commotion of the holidays. However, some summer-sun lovers may struggle with the transition from the warmth of vacation to crisp autumn. To help those of you out, here are six movie recommendations to get you in the spirit of the pumpkin season.

Watching "The Dead Poet's Society" with a fall candle

“Dead Poets Society” takes place at Welton Academy, a fictional all boys boarding school. Starring Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke and Robin Williams, this movie follows a group of boys as they learn how to “seize the day” and live their lives without the pressures of others. Set in northern Delaware, the colorful trees painted in shades of red and orange, the lush landscapes and vast, yet beautiful academy will make you want to live by the motto “carpe diem” for the rest of your life.

“When Harry Met Sally” is a classic for lovers of romantic comedies and happy endings. This film follows two friends, Harry, played by Billy Crystal, and Sally, played by Meg Ryan, as they navigate life in the Big Apple while also finding their way through love, friendships and various relationships. Watching the leaves turn brown while their love story unfolds is the perfect way to put a smile on your face if you’re feeling down about the cool weather.

“School Ties” is for fans of that dark academia feeling. It follows David Greene, a new student at a New England boarding school for boys, as he struggles to truly feel happy and secure in his own skin. Its football scenes are filled with school spirit and will get you excited for the back-to-school season. With gripping and powerful performances from Brendan Fraser and Matt Damon about identity, prejudice and alienation, this moving drama will leave you looking at life a little differently.

“Practical Magic” follows two sisters, played by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who were born into a magical, supernatural family. They discover the importance of sisterhood and family bonds while navigating their way through family secrets, love and friendship. Perfect for lovers of Halloween and all things witchcraft, this movie will have you feeling like it left a spell on you.

“Fantastic Mr. Fox'' combines adventure, humor and good heart all into one beautifully animated film. Created by award winning director Wes Anderson, this film follows the clever Mr. Fox as he outsmarts the mean human farmers to help the fellow animals on his farm. Its whimsical feeling and the warm color palette will sweep you back into your childhood, reminding you of your days jumping in piles of bright leaves and picking pumpkins at the pumpkin patch.

“Little Women” is directed by Greta Gerwig, the same brilliant and talented director who created the blockbuster film “Barbie.” This film features the March sisters: Jo, Amy, Beth and Meg as they all find their way through Civil War era Massachusetts. The March’s warm and toasty New England home perfectly captures the essence of autumn, while also sharing heartfelt messages about love, death, family and friendships.

From the timeless romance of “When Harry Met Sally” to the thought-provoking drama of “School Ties” to the lighthearted “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, these movies are perfect for cozying up with a fluffy blanket and a warm pumpkin spice latte.
