Letter from the Editors: March 2021
Bella Lira ’21
and Rory Brennan ’21
Editors in Chief
Ready to return to normalcy after spending six months of quarantine, we looked forward to reporting on Froshbox, Homecoming, and the Welcome Dances. August 2021 put a twist on our traditional high school experience when it was announced we would be continuing online learning until further notice.
The Royal has covered all of our favorite Louisville traditions, from Grandparents Liturgy to Winter Formal. Significant changes occurred with the newspaper becoming fully online for this year because of the pandemic.
Louisville's famous tree is blooming for Spring!
A printed issue of The Royal Newspaper pior to the pandemic.
However, this has given the staff the opportunity to get extra creative by incorporating new additions and outside interests into the paper. With staff members from grades 10-12, we are able to offer different perspectives and opinions. Our staff has been working hard, using our creative differences to upgrade The Royal by introducing podcasts and utilizing social media to promote the newspaper.
Our podcasts, The BAM podcast and Keeping Up with Spunky, are a new entertainment outlet where we talk about controversial topics, the latest Louisville news, and host guest speakers! Additionally, we are proud to announce Friday Takeovers. Our lovely Social Media Coordinator, Alex Gerwe ‘21, posts announcements on new issues, podcasts, staff spotlights, and article highlights on The Royal’s behalf. With these two new features, our staff has changed the way you get your news during our year of learning from home!
We intend to build off the foundation established by expanding our horizons to appeal to more readers through technology. It is important to connect directly with the students through technology and social media. With our beloved paper being online, we are able to further promote a more sustainable environment. Additionally, it has allowed The Royal to be more accessible to current Louisville students and faculty, reach out to prospective readers, and reconnect with alumni. Thank you for reading; check out the rest of our Issue 6 articles and be ready for our latest podcasts coming out on St. Patrick’s Day!
