Prom is a magical and romanticized event all young people dream about attending. The excitement of wearing a long and elegant dress or a sharp and charming suit is bittersweet, as it marks the commemoration of growing up.

This night is limited to seniors, so that their last high school dance can be spent celebrating each other and all the work they have put into high school. This year, the Louisville class of 2022 attended their City of Lights themed Prom on May 6, 2022, which was held at the Petersen Automotive Museum.

As the senior class council arrived early to prepare, they were greeted by over a hundred police officers, scaring class president Lucy Bailey ’22 and the members of her carpool, as well as myself and my carpool. There were also two full levels of the parking garage filled with CA Exempt cars. To everyone’s surprise, no illegal activity was occurring - it appeared to be merely a training activity, but this experience ensured that this prom would be hard to forget.

Held on the rooftop of the museum, the 12 tables were set under the building's famous red architectural work, with the LA skyline peeking through the gaps in the art. Each table was set with centerpieces resembling industrial pieces of buildings with twinkling lights inside. Around them, there were little toy cars with the initials of each guest written in silver by the senior class vice president G.G. Kloch ’22. Each guest was able to take home this sweet memento of their night.

Between the entrance of the dance and the tables was a dance floor with flashing, colorful lights and an impeccable DJ. There was a photo booth set up in the corner of the space, and a backdrop with a professional photographer, so that students could take the iconic prom photo.

As guests started arriving, the music was drowned out by the cheers from classmates exclaiming how beautiful their friends looked in their dresses and suits. As the last of the guests arrived, the sun began to set, allowing for the perfect background for group photos and solo shots.

Eventually dinner was served, the spread being pasta topped with a red sauce, seared chicken, salad and the most wonderful garlic bread mankind has ever laid eyes on. Everyone chowed down in preparation for the extreme dancing that was bound to take place.

As the night continued, chaperones Mrs. Hetrick and Mrs. Yerena were notorious for singing and dancing with all of their students. DJs have always held a record for unpredictability, however, this man in particular had unmatched skill, as most of his songs were chosen perfectly. In addition, it was class president Lucy Bailey’s birthday, So, in order to work off their dinner, students danced and sang Happy Birthday to her.

Halfway through the dance, Mrs. Yerena was tasked with the responsibility of announcing the Prom Queen and her court. She began with a heartfelt message to the seniors, congratulating them on all their hard work, complementing their collective kindness to each other, and remarking on the impact they have made throughout the Louisville community.

Then, she announced the winners of prom court. Crowned first were the princesses: seniors Emily Bezinover, Ellie Gordon, Jules Henderson, Sarah Stern and Katherine Csiszar.

Prom night continued as more dancing, and eventually dessert, carried the class into the night. However, like most good things, the party came to an end. Every person in attendance made the dance so special to everyone. The venue could not have been better and all around, everyone ended the evening on a happy note.
