Louisville freshmen girls meeting the Crespi boys

Sophmores enjoying their dinner

On Saturday, October 2, Louisville freshmen met inside the hallway to meet three of their Crespi brethren for Frosh/Sophbox, an event normally limited to freshmen but inclusive of sophomores for the first time this year due to the class of 2024 missing out on it last year. The girls met each other in the hall with nervous anticipation; tension in the air you could almost cut with a knife. Mr. Wilson then walked into the Crespi hallway for a quick pep talk and directed the girls to their tables outside the auditorium.

“Just have normal, human interactions.” said Mr. Wilson. Well said.

The freshmen gathered underneath a booth set up with tables outside the Crespi auditorium. The Louisville girls were slightly outnumbered by Crespi freshmen at each table and sat three boys to two girls. After grouping, introductions and prayer, it was time to eat. The Crespi freshman truly brought an eclectic selection of food, I’d say the median was boxed salads and California Pizza Kitchen catering. However, due to COVID protocols, they were not allowed to share food. Some ate entire pizzas by themselves while giving Louisville girls complimentary salads; others brought SUGARFISH, Chick-fil-A and a special shoutout to the ones who brought homemade food.

Everyone slowly started to move around the tables and laughed off the absurdity. At about 6 p.m., everyone completely abandoned their tables to socialize with each other freely.

Leaving 20 minutes for games at the corridor, they went through a couple of rounds of “body farkling,” a term I hadn’t heard in years. As you may remember; the hunter beats the bear, the bear beats the karate kid, the karate kid beats the hunter. After game number two, “heads or tails,” the freshmen were led into the Crespi parking lot to welcome the sophomores.

The early evening soon turned into night, where lights were set up near the booth. Once again, the sophomores met inside the hallway near the lockers. Anticipation permeated the air, though it was less nervousness and more of a feeling of wonder.

“It either goes well or it doesn’t.” said Kathleen Kilroy ‘24.

For the most part, energy heightened and conversation flowed smoothly around the tables.

“Well, we got a ton of people that we know [at our table], so it’s cool.” said Crespi sophomore Ray Bobillo.

After dinner, the sophomores were sent to the Crespi football field to play another game of competitive body farkling. An extensive competition between both schools for a few roundscongratulations to Veronica Leidy ‘24 for the win.

“It’s nice to be grown into it and be with my brother school.” said Ruby Dixon ‘24.

After their 20 minutes of games, the sophomores were sent off to the parking lot, ending the night perfectly at 8:15 p.m.

“They’re like less interesting to watch because they’re more behaved than the freshmen,” Mimi Langley ‘22 said. “It looks like they’re actually having fun.”
