A Farewell to Louisville
A farewell to Louisville

Over the last four years, we have certainly endured a lot together. From the nerve-racking first day of our freshman year to our final days here at the place we have come to call home. Although our senior year has not been ideal, I could not think of a better group of women with whom I shared this journey with. Through a global pandemic, we have found safe ways to remain connected, and even though not all of us are as close as others, we can confidently say that we will love these 83 amazing sisters for the rest of our lives.
After our recent Kairos experience, we are all feeling especially emotional. As our futures are drawing nearer, we must reflect on the wonderful times we have shared together.
From the seniors of the 2020-2021 Journalism class, it has brought us so much joy to bring stories to all of you. Bella Lira, our Content Editor-in-Chief, Rory Brennan, the Editor-in-Chief of Design, Katie Mitchell, the Copy Editor, Alex Gerwe, the Social Media Coordinator, and myself the News and Sports Editor, have a few words we would like to share with you all.
“I have loved every second of my time in Journalism, and it has truly been a blessing to be Editor-in-Chief. We were thrown some obstacles these past two years, but our team has completely taken on the challenge. Our staff has put in extra time and effort into finding innovative ways for people to connect through our platform.
They found creative articles to write along with podcasts, and our social media coordinator Alex Gerwe ’21 created beautiful Instagram posts! We could not have done anything without Ms. Canfield, including finally getting The Royal on Instagram. Thank you, Ms. Canfield, for everything, including making my senior year worthwhile and never having a dull moment.” - Bella Lira ’21.
"I had an amazing experience on the newspaper this year. I really enjoyed getting to take a leadership role this year and so happy that we got the chance to create a real print version! I also had a fun time creating podcasts with my classmates and hope that this new addition will continue. I want to thank Ms. Canfield for all her hard work as our moderator. Her enthusiasm is much appreciated!" - Rory Brennan '21
"I loved working with Ms. Canfield and the rest of my classmates to bring news and joy to the Louisville community. This class helped me realize that I want to go into Journalism heading into college. I am excited to see what the next years look like for Louisville Journalism, and I am extremely grateful for this experience!" - Katie Mitchell '21
"Taking Journalism has been one of my favorite parts of senior year. Journalism has given me the opportunity to engage with out Louisville community despite a pandemic, and I have also learned so many new skills through the work we do! Thank you so much, Ms. Canfield and the rest of the newspaper staff, for making this class so special." - Alex Gerwe '21
Our fellow seniors shared some of their transformations from freshman to senior year. Whether it is having a different color hair, no braces, a growth spurt, or even just a more mature look, all of us have changed.

When it came time to talk about what the seniors will miss most, many options came to mind: pep rallies, school dances, sweatpants, food service, 1:15 pm Fridays, and sports. Although many will miss all of these things, people will miss the Louisville sisterhood most of all. To our underclassmen, do not take for granted the bonds you form at Louisville. Time goes by quickly, and before you realize it, it is over. Enjoy every moment.
As a journalism team and with the help of our fearless leader, Ms. Canfield, who has undoubtedly redefined this course and put us on the path to success, we hope to leave this legacy well intact so it may continue for many generations to come.
Starting together as little baby freshmen to the graduating adults we are becoming, remember the words the fabulous Troy Bolton once said.
Troy Bolton once said, ‘We really are all in this together!”
Thank you, Louisville for allowing us to grow not only as individuals but also for giving us an unbreakable bond, our Louisville sisterhood.
