2024 has officially begun, and with that comes one of the most anticipated holidays of the year: Valentine’s Day. Here are my rankings of the hands-down best gifts to give your valentine–or galentine–this year, on a budget.

5. The Classic: flowers & chocolate

Although this may be the lowest on the list, that does not mean it isn’t a spectacular option. Flowers and chocolate have been classic Valentine’s gifts for years, and I do not think this option is going anywhere anytime soon.

There are also so many ways to get creative with this gift. Creating your own bouquet and mixing flowers of all kinds and colors can do wonders. Even picking out cute wrapping for the flowers can make them standout–bonus points if it is their favorite color or a cute symbol specific to them. The great thing about flowers and chocolates is that they are relatively inexpensive and always a hit.

4. The Romantic: a love letter

Sometimes all your partner wants to hear is how much you care about them, which is why a love letter is such a great gift for your valentine. This is another gift that you can get creative with by decorating the letter and adding specific memories and inside jokes that only your valentine can understand.

If your favorite subject is English and you have a way with words, or if your valentine’s love language is words of affirmation, this might be the perfect gift for you to give!

3. The Music Lover: a spotify playlist

Gifting a spotify playlist is severely underrated as it is such a unique way to express your feelings through music. There are so many different routes to take with this gift. For one, you can organize the song titles into a secret message or code, or you can even pick songs with lyrics that remind you of your relationship with them. Not to mention, it’s such a practical gift as they will have plenty of moments to put the playlist to use.

Music is one of the most romantic ways to express your love, especially since music is so widely recognized. Just imagine them listening to your playlist on the drive to school, or while they’re relaxing at home.

2. The Creative One: a homemade craft

This gift is perfect for all the artistic people. A homemade craft is always one of the best gifts to give because you can utilize both your creativity and express your feelings from the heart. There are endless possibilities for making a gift from scratch.

Whether you are making something small or big, the fact that it came from your own mind and hard work goes a long way when it comes to gift-giving. It also definitely helps to notice what your valentine’s interests are, so when it comes to making your gift, you know exactly what to craft.

1. The Gift-Giver: a basket of their favorite things

Picking out a basket of your valentine’s favorite things is probably the best path to take. If you’re indecisive and just can’t choose what to give them, it never hurts to pick out a bunch of gifts. It also doesn’t have to be the most expensive gifts that you can find, but rather a bunch of small items that they will find use for in their everyday life.

This has definitely been on the rise in popularity recently, and there is no surprise why. If your love language is gift-giving, you will love to see your partner’s reaction to the gifts that you picked out especially for them.

The important thing to remember when picking out the perfect Valentine’s Day gift is your partner’s interests. Understanding their love language can also go a long way into giving them the perfect gift. Maybe they just want to spend time with you, or hear you express your undying love. Either way, it really is just the thought that counts when it comes to gift-giving.
