On Friday, December 8, Louisville hosted yet another successful Winter Wonderland, but this year for the whole community. With a plethora of Christmas activities offered, many families came to our school between 4:30 and 6:30 P.M. and enjoyed jumping from classroom to classroom to engage in the festivities.

In room 13, you could find both Louisville students and children from the community partaking in some rockin’ Christmas Karaoke, organized by our very own Music Club. The room was filled with laughter and dancing as kids belted songs like “Frosty the Snowman,” “Feliz Navidad” and even some Taylor Swift classics.

Room 14 was transformed into a movie theater for the night as kids gathered to watch Disney Christmas shorts. Six different 30-minute shorts, including “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” and “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” played throughout the night, which was the perfect rest-stop for the kids after the fun and games in other rooms.

Storytelling by Louisville students took place in Campus Ministry, where children gathered on quilts around the floor to hear different Christmas tales. This activity was put together and run by Louisville’s Book Club, and the cozy Christmas vibes created a feeling of nostalgia for the days when the week before Christmas break consisted of holiday movies and not finals.

The winner of this years gift hot potato game

Beginning at 5:30 PM in the Innovation Lab was a competitive Christmas game, gift hot potato. In this game, a gift is wrapped multiple times and children pass it around in a circle, unwrapping a layer as they receive it while music plays. When the music is paused, whoever has the present unwraps a layer. When the last layer is unwrapped, whoever has the gift wins. Although this game did end in a few tears from the little ones, it was overall a blast.

In room 19, families had the opportunity to paint wooden ornaments. This activity allowed children to be creative and create ornaments that they can cherish for years. Seeing ornaments on trees that were made by friends and family from when they were little is always so precious, and seeing all of the ornaments that will be on these families’ trees for years to come was very sweet.

The other art room offered both Christmas coloring pages and letter writing. The children could write letters to whoever they wanted, whether that be a wishlist for Santa Claus or a letter to the elderly. The coloring included fill-in pictures of reindeer, gingerbread men and Christmas stockings.

On top of all of these festive activities, free hot chocolate was also being served by Louisville students. Parents especially loved this addition as they enjoyed a little treat while their kids partook in the crafts and other activities.

Overall, Winter Wonderland was a hit for the families of the community as children got to pick from an assortment of Christmas activities and parents got to socialize and enjoy some tasty hot chocolate. Hopefully, Winter Wonderland will remain a tradition at Louisville because it is such a beloved night for so many families.
