Golf

Golf, golf, golf!

Let yourself consider the fact that golf is not just an old man's sport. No, golf is a high intensity, high pressure sport, meant for only the most elite athletes. You might have seen these chiseled and refined girls around campus, but do you really know them? And if you think you know them, think again! To give these ladies the spotlight they deserve, it is only right to start by introducing Louisville’s two golf captains.

Cassidy Serino '22

Cassidy Serino holds the title of co-captain on this year's team, but also the lowest shot score of the season. It would be hard to miss her high paced walk as she balances her love of the sport with her love for her team. Her four years of dedication to Louisville’s golf program are shortly coming to an end, but that does not mean she lost enthusiasm and excitement for every single match. You could usually find Cassidy sporting her classic 2012 Nissan Altima, a definite sports car at heart and mascot for the team.

Ava Browne '22

Ava Browne also holds the title of co-captain, scoring scores lower than the coaches tolerance for the amount of times she barks. Ava’s iconic adoration for golf keeps the team's spirits high, a key piece when it comes to walking across courses. She’s an absolute legend when it comes to getting out of bunkers and wearing her seat belt on the bus. The four years she has given to the team at Louisville shows how much she values the game and all the new people she meets throughout the season.

(Left to right) Players Rosalia Cortese '23, Skylar Greene '25, Cassidy Serino '22, and Madison Regala '23 pose with a perfect backswing

Madison Regala ‘23 is another long-time golf member, whose pure skill speaks numbers. Her built-in stool attached to her golf bag allows her to have a much needed rest as she crunches the numbers on the scorecard. Madison, known as Mad Dog by few, will find a way to fall into the deepest Rapid Eye Movement (REM) cycle known to man. Previously, she has been caught falling off bus seats due to deep sleep, almost sleeping through her tee time or bundling up in the comfort of the first row of seats on the team bus.

Rosalia Cortese ‘23 has definitely earned her spot as the most improved player. Her insanely accurate chip shots shine through the rest. Her happy go lucky mood lets her opponents and teammates know that all she wants is to have a good time. Rosie cannot even think about stepping onto the golf course without a ball marked RC, her initials, or her Mickey Mouse magnetic ball marker. The girl has her short game down, nailing every put.

Skylar Greene ‘25 is one of Louisville's newest members. Entering the team as a freshman, Skylar has definitely impacted the team for the better. Infamous for her candy snacks and sloth club cover, Skylar adds a fun flare to the team. She has proven to be a real trooper when it comes to toughing out some difficult holes, but all in all Skylar’s strong spirit is not leaving this team anytime soon.

Georgia Kreischer ‘22 is another new member on the team. Joining as a senior was a silly little decision, but one that screamed confidence. Almost as if she is writing this article herself, Georgia would admit to being absolutely clueless but optimistic about her skills in golf. The amount of times she has forgotten something for a match is just unremarkable, just like her putting skills (this is a joke). Her first and last year on the golf team was absolutely incredible, offering a closer bond with all the team members.

Honorable mention: While these six girls play two matches a week, four others show up to practice twice a week, wanting to learn from their coach and hopefully improve their skills. Players Maddie McHatton ‘22, Ila Kreischer ‘24, Sophia Turley ‘25, Alicia Yang ‘24 and Ella Sutherland ‘25 have proven their dedication throughout the season and will hopefully return next year to qualify for the team.
