September 22, 2022 marked the beginning of Fall; the time where leaves fall, the air feels crisp and pumpkins are everywhere. The best way to spend a perfect fall day is to cuddle up, look out the window and read a book that will immerse you in a new world. Hopefully these recommendations can entice you to find a way to pass fall.

The first book on this list is Twilight by Stephanie Myers. This novel is about a young girl who moves from hot and sunny Arizona to the cold and rainy town of Forks, Washington. At first, Forks seems like a normal town with feuding residents and strange citizens, but when Bella Swan dives deeper into the history of Forks she discovers the truth: the seemingly normal teen sitting next to her in biology class is actually a vampire. Since Twilight takes place in a foggy town in Washington it sets the mood for the perfect fall day.

This next book, Truly Devious by Maureen Jonhson, follows Stevie Campbell, who attends a boarding school, Ellingham Academy, for only the smartest teens. There’s a place for artists, inventors and scientists. But there’s a catch: following the opening of the school, the owner’s wife and daughter were kidnapped. There was only one clue left behind: a letter signed “Truly Devious.” Detectives considered the case unsolvable but Stevie, a true crime lover, is determined to find out what truly happened. The thrilling pace of this book makes it great for a fall day.

Next up is The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. This book trails the story of four charismatic boys and one girl named Blue, who has a family of psychics that predicted that the first person she kisses would die. When Blue meets the boys, she is completely drawn to Adam and Gansey. Adam is a boy on scholarship in a school full of stuck up rich kids who think they’re better than him. Gansey is a boy on a mission to find and unlock the magic of their town. Together Gansey and his crew uncover the truth behind their small town in Virginia, while Blue tries not to fall in love with any of the so-called Raven Boys. The fall aesthetic of spending time in cafes and looking for clues creates the best energy for fall.

When people think of death, they may think of the grim reaper, or a heavenly place, but for Nick and Allie when they get into a car crash they don’t experience either of those things. Instead they get stuck in a world between life and death. On their quest to find a way to the place they’re supposed to be they find friendships and a purpose. To find out what happens in this version of the afterlife pick up Everlost by Neal Shusterman. The spooky and scary atmosphere of Everlost makes a great fall read.

These books are all Young Adult making them approachable for beginners. Hopefully this list will inspire you to branch out and read more different and amazing fall-time reads.
