Meet The Royal Staff!
Zia Eger-Slobig '25
Editor-in-Chief of Content
Hey, I am Zia. I am Editor-In-Chief of content on the Royal Newspaper. I love music, art, and writing. A little bit about me, I think that I am heavily influenced by my childhood obsession with Mamma Mia. I am a horror freak and big big fan of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. I am a returning staff member due to my odd attachment to this class and my fellow peers. I am a trained oil painter and also a sketching enthusiast. I am very excited to be able to read and edit all of our beautifully written articles. This class is my safe space and I am so lucky to have it a part of my life once again. I hope you enjoy our issues this year!

Howdy! My name is Kelsey Phillip and I am a senior. I am so excited to be back on the staff for a second year. This year as Editor-in-chief of design I will be handling our print layout and making sure that this website it spick and span. I love watching and attending soccer, basketball, football, and hockey games, or any other sport imaginable. I am also a huge motorsports fan, F1 to Indycar, I’ll be watching on sundays. I am so excited to continue writing as many sports related non-sports page articles as I can this year. Stay tuned for all of our issues this year, they are sure to have something you’ll love.
Amanda Baucher '25
Editor-in-chief of Social Media
Hi everyone! My name is Olivia Solorzano and I’m a sophomore. I’m so excited to be working on the newspaper this semester as a content editor! Within the Louisville community, I’m a part of the tech crew for all the musicals, dramas, and dance performances. You’ll usually see me with my AirPods while listening to music. Some of my favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams, Olivia Rodrigo, and many more. I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan and I will take any opportunity I can to talk about her. I’m also a huge reader, and I spend my weekends reading silly romance books in my room. I love movies and everything film related, and some of my favorites include La La Land, Dead Poets Society, and Little Women. I’m so happy to be part of the team that makes The Royal come to life!
Valeria Ruiz '25
Copy Editor
Hi! My name is Valeria Ruiz but everyone calls me Val. I am very excited to be a staff member on The Royal newspaper again! In my free time I love playing with my dog Leo, hanging out with my friends, watching TV and listening to music. My current obsessions feature That 70s Show, Jake Shane's podcast, and random trips to Chili's with my friends because Triple Dippers are always going to be a thing for me. Fun Fact: my favorite song right now would have to be Maniac by Michael Sembello because I'm in my 80s era right now. Anyway, I'm thrilled to write articles for our Louisville community during my last year here!
Hannah Langley'25
Executive Podcast Coordinater
Hi everyone, my name is Hannah Langley and I am a senior. I have done two semesters of Journalism and plan to do two more this year. I like doing journalism because I get to be creative and write about things that interest me. I also really like writing for other Louisville students. English and history have always been my best subjects so journalism is the perfect class for me, it is also what I plan to study in college. Some of my favorite things are cooking, listening to music, playing tennis, or hanging out with my sisters and friends. I think my all-time favorite music artists are Clairo, Amy Winehouse, and Lorde. I also play tennis for Louisville and I'm captain of the varsity team this year. I am super excited to start writing for The Royal again and I hope you all enjoy it too!
Ruby Sarrow '25
Associate Podcast Corrdinator
Hi! My name is Ruby Sarrow, and I am a senior taking my first semester of Journalism. Super excited to join and contribute to the team as your Assistant Podcast Coordinator. Outside of school, I might be trying new restaurants with friends, searching vintage markets for fun clothing, or watching shows in bed. I love a good series, and some of my favorites include Russian Doll, Grand Army and Shameless. My biggest passion is traveling, and I am usually out of town during school breaks. I visit New York and London a couple of times a year to see my friends and family, but my most memorable trip was to Greece for the summer. In terms of my involvement here, I help out with events as an Ambassador, and have played beach and indoor volleyball throughout school. I am looking forward to this new year and putting out fresh and fun content for Louisville!
Lucy Sciff '26

Hi! My name is Lucy Schiff and I am a junior. This is my first semester of journalism and I am excited to be The Royal’s Sports Editor this year! Some of my hobbies are writing, hanging out with friends, listening and making music, playing soccer, cooking, and traveling. I have a 2 year old puppy named Ollie, and he is crazy but I love cuddling and playing with him. One of my favorite ever TV shows is Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I have watched it a billion times. I have so many favorite music artists that it's hard to choose from but a couple are Billie Eilish, Amy Winehouse, Brent Faiyaz, The Beatles, SZA, Frank Ocean, One Direction and so so many more. Winter has my heart, it is my favorite season ever! I am so excited to be on the Royal staff this year and I can not wait to share my articles with you!
Ava Behjat '27
Opinion Page Editor
Hi! My name is Ava Behjat and I’m a sophomore transfer student here. This is my first semester in Journalism and I am the editor for the Opinion pages. I love creative writing and worldbuild, reading world literature, climbing trees (and falling from them), making art, and researching comparative mythology, folklore, and religion. I run a Substack and a podcast on my interests for my personal enjoyment. I am very excited to be part of Journalism and (hopefully) write articles people will enjoy reading!
Amanda Orozco '26
Arts & Entertainment Page Editor
Hi everyone! My name is Amanda Orozco and I am a junior. This is my first semester in journalism and I am so excited for what's to come. I have always loved writing, whether it’s writing in my journal or an essay for school. Writing allows me to get all of my thoughts down on paper, which I find therapeutic. A few of my favorite things include doing nails, shopping, traveling, hanging out with my friends, listening to music, and of course, watching movies. My top two favorite movies of all time have to be Mrs. Doubtfire and A Walk to Remember, which I think says a lot about my personality. I have been a member of Crespi Taiko, going on my third year now, and I have loved every second of it. I am so happy to be a part of an amazing staff who all share the love for writing.
Farrah Hedari '27
Features Page Editor
Hey, I’m Farrah Heidari, and I am the Features Editor for journalism this semester! This is my first year on the staff and I am so excited. Throughout my life I have always loved creative writing and thrived mostly in English classes, so being a part of The Royal newspaper this year is an incredible opportunity for me that I’m very grateful for. A little bit about me is that I love boxing, listening to music, going to movies, and baking. SZA, Lana Del Rey, Eminem, and Kali Uchis are constantly playing on my phone, and my favorite movies are Little Women (2019 Version), Coraline, and The Notebook. Anyways, I hope this year’s newspaper will be filled with unforgettable memories captured in all the amazing articles my peers and I write!
