The Search for Graduation Dresses
Seniors on the Search for Graduation Dresses

May is approaching, and the search for graduation dresses has begun! Ms. Thinnes’ “bright white” requirement, COVID-19 restrictions and personal fashion taste pose great challenges, but the odds are in the seniors’ favor! After surveying 24 girls, only eight have not yet begun their quest to find the perfect dress. However, the journey does not come without serious determination.
As for me, I chose the online route. Only after scouring the internet for hours and hours did I recruit my mother’s help, who found my dress. Though it took quite the hunt, it was reassuring to hear that some seniors had the same struggle.
Delaney Vega ‘21 revealed, “It was really difficult for me to get this dress. There were only two options that fit Louisville's standards.”

Other Louisville seniors expressed the same issue: the guidelines for graduation dresses make it difficult to find a cute one. Louisville has maintained the tradition of white floor-length dresses for decades. As time goes by, it becomes harder to locate a dress that is not only long, modest and white, but also matches the individual styles of each girl. Only time will reveal the direction of graduation dresses at Louisville!
“To be honest, it wasn't the best. The criteria limits so many options for a tradition that I feel could be more altered to today's day and age,” remarked Jaden Schutt ‘21.
Shopping for a dress during a pandemic stirred up challenges, but our seniors powered through.
Delaney Rach '21 said that “trying on dresses was fun, but because of the pandemic, I was only able to bring my mom and sister. When I tried the dresses on, I FaceTimed my grandma so she could be a part of the experience!”
Other seniors had an easier time with the process and are content with their dresses. I have to say, so far the dresses look stunning this year. To those who haven’t yet gotten a dress, it is always a possibility to borrow one from campus ministry by reaching out to Mrs. Zamora. I look forward to seeing the girls and their looks on June 5!
