As the world-renowned Louisville Varsity soccer team’s season came to an end, the seniors were honored by their teammates. On January 27, Rose Dubois ’23, Sara Brinson ’23, and Stevie Carmona ’23 were acknowledged for their hard work and dedication to the team.

As of this season, Brinson has scored four goals and shared her advice to future Louisville soccer players:

“Cherish the moments of each season because people will come and go each year.”

Brinson also recalled some of her fondest memories were "team huddles before the game and the night practices under lights.”

Seniors: Rose Dubois, Sara Brinson and Stevie Carmona

Senior Rose Dubois added that some of her favorite memories were the bus rides before a game, playing indoor soccer on rainy days while listening to music, and team meetings in room fourteen.

Dubois would like to remind her teammates and future Louisville players to “always stay positive and connected on the field, play for each other and, most importantly, remember to leave it all on the field.”

Last but not least, Senior Stevie Carmona was a force in the back line for the royals. She helped defend their lead and made many crucial plays over the last season.

Stevie says that she “really loved all her teammates and was happy to be part of the program.”

The game against Immaculate Heart ended with the Royals tying 0-0. The game was a hard-fought match and many commented on how the seniors will be missed by their teammates.

“From the moment we joined the team they became part of our family and everyone will miss them,” said Junior Emily Brown ’24.

Congratulations to Rose, Sara, and Stevie on their unforgettable high school careers.

The Royals also acquired new coaches for the 2022-2023 season. The Royals are now led by head coach Ariana Martinez and assistant coach Trinity Watson.

Coach Martinez is able to bring her unique experience as a collegiate athlete and previous coach to Pepperdine University to our Louisville team. Over her six seasons as a coach at Pepperdine University, Coach Martinez was a part of 72 wins, 29 ties, and 14 losses. As a player, some of her many achievements include playing Division I soccer at UCLA and Cal Berkeley.

In addition to collegiate soccer, coach Martinez has also played professionally with the Mexican national team. She played five games in the 2012 U-20 World Cup and was called up to the Mexican National Team as a college sophomore in 2011, playing in the 2012 U-20 World Cup in Japan with Mexico.

Coach Martinez adds that her first season with the Royals has been “truly enjoyable and I look forward to practice and games every day.”

The second addition to the coaching staff is Trinity Watson. Coach Watson also played collegiate soccer at Pepperdine where she set the school record with seven penalties converted to goals as well as receiving All-West Region Honors and All-WCC First team Honors. She played on the United States Youth National Team and wants to continue her career either as a professional in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), or abroad next season.

Both coaches have helped shape the team's culture and bring a new perspective to the program. To keep up with the royals and know how they're doing follow their Instagram @lvhs_varsity_soccer.
