Every year at Louisville, a special tradition occurs during the first week of October: Spirit Week! This fun and eventful week happens right before Louisville’s homecoming, the Fall Ball. Throughout the week, ASB comes up with a daily theme that students across all grade levels come dressed as. 

Monday was Greece vs. “Grease”; students dressed in outfits to fit the time period of ancient Greece or Rome or like the iconic styles from the 50s that the characters in the movie, “Grease” wear. The campus was littered with ancient Greco-Roman kings and queens along with biker boys and pink ladies. 

Angie Stevens ’24 expressed her love for this day by being a greaser; she liked the theme because “it gave a lot of options for what people could dress up as.” 

In honor of National “Mean Girls” day, Tuesday October 3rd, everyone came dressed in pink or as specific characters from the movie to show their appreciation for the iconic movie. Mean Girls Day is on October 3rd because the main character, Cady Heron (Lindsey Lohan) is asked by her crush, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennet) what day it is in math class and she answers: “It’s October 3rd.” This special day allows many fans of “Mean Girls” to celebrate their love for the movie. 

     Thursday was class color day, where every grade level came decked out with their class t-shirts and colors. Students arrived extra early to decorate their lawns to win spirit points. The incoming Freshmen flew into the year as the Purple Butterflies, the Sophomores resemble the iconic Pink Jellyfish, the Juniors tower over everyone as the Yellow Giraffes and the Seniors roar proudly as the one and only Red Dinosaurs. 

The pep rally was also on Thursday and each grade participated in a series of competitions in order to win more spirit points. Crespi Taiko was there to hype up the crowd with upbeat drumming and make the pep rally even more lively and spirited. The Seniors even performed their special dance choreographed by Carys Chesire ’24 and Lucy Multer ’24 in front of the other grades.

Last but not least, Friday was Age Day! No high school students were spotted on the Louisville Campus, only babies, tweens, the middle-aged and senior citizens were present. Many students came dressed in baby onesies or even gray wigs and a cane to reveal their actual age. 

Spirit Week is such a fun way to promote unity at Louisville across all grades, with some healthy competition, of course. It serves to make the school year more enjoyable and eventful, allowing students to feel less stressed and just have fun. It not only unifies the school itself, but also helps to build teamwork within each individual grade that participates. Everyone is working together to cheer one another on. 

School spirit is a vital part of Louisville and serves as the basis for making the school a better, happier place for all who attend. Spirit Week gives students a chance to show their school spirit and find their appreciation for Louisville and everyone in it.
