Fashion trends around campus have changed tremendously over the past 61 years. Currently, some noticeable trends this winter season include Louisville sweatpants and blue pullover sweatshirts, which have been the most frequently worn combination. Another commonly favored look is Uggs and sweatpants, which has been a trend around campus since the early 2010s and is still popular today.
A recent survey discovered that about 64 students who answered said that they wear uggs every day to school. However, an opposing opinion from other students was that they are comfy, but they are not a fan of how they look. Nonetheless, every once in a while, comfort beats looks. Others find that they are “cheugy,” which has become a very popular slang word used by teenagers meaning that something was formerly cool but isn't anymore.
Even as the weather gets cooler, not everyone may want to wear sweatpants everyday. Some may consider legwarmers and long fuzzy socks. A survey showed that about 46 students stated that they will for sure be wearing classic 80’s leg warmers this winter season at Louisville. On the other hand, 58 students said a strong no to wearing leg warmers in the upcoming cold.
Recently, Mrs. Thinnes sent out an email informing the school about the new pre-approved dress code sweaters. Many students were upset when they had purchased them at the mother daughter boutique, and later learned they were not allowed to wear them at school. The sweaters included a blue zip up with the yellow Louisville logo on the front, and a grey Louisville zip up with Sherpa lining the inside. Because of the disappointment about not being able to wear the new zip-ups, the school finally added the blue zip-up to the dress code. Another item that can be worn are the Louisville beanies.
The most popular backpacks that students carry are Jansport basic black bags, but some girls do get them in fun colors, such as dark blue or baby blue with the leather bottom. Other students carry around tote bags instead.
The blue Louisville masks with gold fleur de lis on them have become popular since returning to campus. The spirit store has been rapidly selling out of masks recently, so make sure to check them out while they are still in stock.
Included in the survey were questions about Doc Martin boots - about 74 students of the people who answered the survey stated that they wanted them on the dress code. Ten students said they are a walking case of blisters and 30 said they don’t get why they’re so hyped up. Additionally, Nike Air Force 1 shoes are one of the most popular shoes worn around campus. They can be basic, but also come in many different colors and styles to make them unique. During the survey, 63 students said Air Forces are never leaving fashion, yet 14 said they are so over them.
I love seeing what cool and clever looks get worn around campus. Winter fashion and flare can be fun while still staying within the dress code!
