On August 20, the junior class of 2023 hosted the Big Sister Little Sister Luncheon for the freshman class of 2025. Situated on the upper alumni patio, we were able to have a safe event outdoors following COVID-19 protocols. This special event became even more remarkable because it was one of the first multi grade events this school year!

This year, a new tradition started because the juniors picked up their little sisters from the classes they were in that morning and escorted them to the alumni patio. Two juniors articulated their experience at the luncheon to provide interesting insight that is relatable to many juniors.

With their first year of high school cut short, in many ways the juniors are still stuck in an unfinished freshman year.

“It was nice meeting someone else that is experiencing what I was experiencing two years ago. It was like déjà vu,” said Alyssa Nicotero ’23.

“It was really nice to experience the luncheon because I joined later in freshman year and it was great to go through it with my little sister and share the same feelings because it was the first time for both of us,” said Dali Solano ‘23.

The patio was decorated beautifully in accordance with the purple class of 2023 theme. All the round tables had dragon balloons as centerpieces and the food buffet was ornamented with an array of purple decorations.

The menu included pasta with marinara sauce, salad and delicious garlic bread. Not to mention, the extravagant display of desserts; from doughnuts with purple sprinkles to cupcakes with a dollop of purple frosting (Thank you Parent Guild!).

The luncheon began with an introductory speech by the junior class president, Dali Solano ‘23, followed by a prayer recited by the class secretary, Elyse Morneau ‘23. After lunch, I gave a speech on the significance of big sister little sister bond. Then, Dr. Aguilar spoke about the sisterhood pledge and led the pinning. This is when the junior big sister fastens a pin onto the little sister’s blazer lapel.

The pin is a symbol of the bond created between each big-little sister and will remind the freshmen of the sister they have every time they wear their blazer. This wonderful event was the first of many sisterhood traditions for the freshmen!

“It was a refreshing and unifying experience that brought me closer to everyone,” said Valeria Ruiz ‘25.
