On August 26, 2022, the Freshman and Junior classes got together for the annual Big-Sister Little-Sister Luncheon. The current juniors did not have the opportunity to have a big sister of their own, so being able to provide this experience for the freshmen was truly special. Over Microsoft Teams, the classes of 2024 and 2022 attempted to create a group-based Big-Sister Little-Sister event, however, due to the barrier of a screen, both classes struggled to maintain a relationship with their sisters. This only motivated the juniors more and made it even more important for them to create a strong relationship with the class of 2026.
During their first period of the day, the junior class received a notecard dictating which freshman was their new little sister. Once the time came to pick them up from their period two class, the class of 2024 buzzed with anticipation as they walked through the halls to meet the new freshmen. With smiles on their faces, the juniors took them up to St. Louis Hall to begin the Big-Sister Little-Sister celebration.
Walking into St. Louis hall, the freshmen and juniors were greeted by bright red decorations, representing the junior class’ mascot red dinosaurs. Tables were lined with red food and treats, catching the eyes of all the students in the building. They gazed at the red macarons, cake pops, brownies and cookies awaiting them.
They were welcomed by the junior class president, Eva Lloyd, who gave a speech about the importance of making new friends in different grades. As she spoke on the significance of bonding within different classes, the juniors and freshmen began to converse, starting a new friendship they will remember forever.
After junior class secretary Emma Castro led the classes in prayer, each table was dismissed for food, and the room began to explode with energy from the students. Topics such as favorite movies, classes and sports were used to further the connection between the sisters. Additionally, the juniors made sure to leave the freshmen with advice on handling the difficult transitions they will face during their first year of high school.
High school is hard to navigate, but with the help of their new big sisters, Louisville hopes the class of 2026 will have a smooth transition and enjoyable year. The new support system gained through the Big-Sister Little-Sister program gives the freshmen a chance to learn from students who have already gone through, and can relate to, the awkward first-year experience.

To round off the event, junior class vice president Carys Cheshire gave a heartfelt speech about the importance of unity at Louisville and how no matter what the freshmen can always count on their big sister to support them throughout their high school career. She emphasized the importance of the new bond made by the students, and how it should be carried with them through the next two years.
After the eating and chatting subsided, a monumental moment for the freshman occurred: receiving fleur-de-lis enamel pins gifted by the juniors. To end off the luncheon, the juniors placed the new Louisville pins onto the freshman classes’ blazers, further welcoming them into the sisterhood. The pinning marked the end of the lunch, but not the end of the bond created between the class of 2024 and the class of 2026.
