For months, students at Louisville have been preparing and practicing for this year’s spring production, “Shrek the Musical”! The countless rehearsals and long hours after school prepped the cast and crew to execute a perfect opening night.

“Shrek the Musical'' is a theatrical take on the beloved kid's movie, including more songs, dance numbers and comedy. The production expands on the backstory of each character, giving an in-depth story on Princess Fiona, and Shrek and Donkey’s journey to Lord Farquads kingdom, Duloc. Their journey is filled with fighting, singing, jokes provided by Donkey, and so many plot twists!

“It has been an honor to share the stage with such beautiful and talented young women. I not only have made friends but found a family. VLV!” - Rosalia Cortese ‘23 who plays young Fiona, Elf and Duloc Dancer in Shrek the Musical.

This was the first musical production held since Louisville returned from online learning. Hosted in St. Louis Hall, tons of chairs were set up on the floor and on rising platforms so that around 100 people could comfortably enjoy the show!

The show opens with our protagonist Shrek, played by actor Brock Powell, who sets the mood of the play as he narrates his past. A young Shrek, played by upcoming super-star Oliver Wilson, is shown saying farewell to his parents to go settle down in his very own swamp, isolated from the citizens and the fairy tale creatures of Duloc. However, life does not stay peaceful for Shrek as many fairytale creatures are pushed out of their homes and banished to Shrek's swamp! In the hopes of gaining his privacy back, Shrek ventures to Duloc. On his journey, he meets his future buddy Donkey, played by Eva Lloyd ‘24 and Rose Dubois ‘23.

“I feel grateful to share my last show at Louisville with such a creative and talented cast! Raise your furry fists!” -Ava Browne ‘22 who plays Papa Bear, Duloc Dancer, a knight, a guard, and The Priest in Shrek the Musical.

In the odd and hilarious kingdom of Duloc, Lord Farquaad, played by actor Will Riddle, is on a hunt for a queen. So, in return for his swamp, Shrek must rescue and return the beautiful Princess Fiona, played by Kirsten Villa ‘24 and Lily Rich ‘22.

Donkey and Shrek's adventures are filled with enough action and adventure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats!

The Blue cast performed on opening night, getting special applause for the Dragon's entrance and a solo performance of “Forever”, played by Alex Carreon ‘23 and Dzian Tran ‘23, and Pinocchio's speeches to the fairytale characters, played by Jenny Bobillo ‘22 and Boo Killroy ‘24.

The actresses of Louisville worked hard for such a great performance, and each rehearsal paid off! Good luck to both casts as they continue to perform this weekend, then close the show on April 9, at 7:30pm.
