The spring sports season is starting up, and one sport to look forward to here at Louisville is definitely softball. Since their league championship in 2021, there hasn’t been much talk of the sport. Now is the perfect opportunity to jump in and go watch some games.

Softball, much like baseball, is a demanding sport with its own unique characteristics. The pitching itself requires a different level of concentration and precision that is hard to achieve. Watching the Royals embody that focus is really something else.

The Royal softball team started off the season strong with three consecutive wins. Currently, they are gearing up to start their league matches, right in the midst of their season. The team is constantly working on their skills, even here on Louisville’s campus.

Despite facing a number of challenges including injuries, particularly concussions, the team has demonstrated remarkable resilience. The injuries and other conflicts have been a bit of a setback, but with so many games left in the 2024 season, they are sure to make a comeback.

Over the past few years, the team dynamic has significantly evolved. Being one of the only sports that still actively played during covid, Louisville’s softball team experienced a challenge that very few sports have. A strong team dynamic is essential to the ultimate function of the team. Although the team had definitely gone through their ups and downs, they really have been growing together.

“The team has definitely grown closer over the past few years. I’m really close with most of the girls on the team,” said Ruby Dixon ’24.

The pace of the game may surprise you, as a lot can unfold in just one inning. The Louisville Royals are determined to take advantage of the many games they have left in the season. With over ten games left in the season, there is a plethora of league and non-league games to attend, all before AP season.

There are still plenty of opportunities to go and support your Louisville sisters. There are at least six more home games during the season, all of which start at 3:15 pm.

If you want to go and cheer on the Louisville softball team, make sure to stop by the Encino-Sherman Oaks Girls Softball Field (ESO) on March 21, April 1, April 15, April 22 and April 24. Go Royals!
