Prom Noir: a night of dancing, smiling and beauty

On Saturday, May 4, the class of 2024 dressed to impress and made their way to Hollywood for Prom. The Avalon had an old Hollywood aesthetic that fit perfectly with the Film Noir theme. There was moody lighting, and lots of homey seating such as couches and armchairs with gold detailing. The class council also added their own touch with black and white photos of the class of 2024 in antique picture frames.

As people arrived at the venue they walked the red carpet and got their picture taken on the balcony by the entrance, walking  in to see a beautiful venue. There was no sit down dinner, but waiters passed by all night with trays of  delicious hors d'oeuvres of sweet potato fries, truffle mac n cheese, grilled cheese with tomato soup, and sliders with avocado and cheese. The food was definitely a hit as people were raving about how good they were and had multiple of everything. Another perk about this prom was the unlimited shirley temples and bar next to the dance floor, so after dancing the night away one could get a quick drink.

The dance floor was lit with dark red lighting and behind the DJ were graphics from old black and white movies. If some people did not want to dance or just wanted a break, there was also an opportunity to take pictures in the photo booth or play Blackjack at the casino tables.

The best part of the night was definitely the crowning of the prom court. Ms. Canfield started the coronation with saying that the votes were so evenly distributed and that everyone was voting for everyone, showing how strong the community is at Louisville. The prom princesses were Emily Kruska, Veronica Leidy, Abby Leight and Hailey Koffman. When each of them were announced the crowd screamed and clapped as they went up to be crowned by Lucy Multer and get their mini oscar award to the sound of “Mia and Sebastian’s Theme” from the movie “La La Land”.

After all the prom princesses were announced the prom queen of 2024 was revealed to be none other than the one and only Talia Azarloza!

Azarloza explained how she was both surprised and excited:

“I told a few of my friends it would be cool to be prom queen but never actually expected it, you know you can hope for something but you never actually think it’ll be you. I don’t really fit the traditional prom queen mold, so I’m still a little bit in shock. I feel so honored that literally anyone would put my name on that list, so thank you to everyone who did! When they called me up I was just so happy and shocked that my little what-if came to fruition. I was also just so glad Lucy got to crown me.”

Everyone was cheering and the prom court was dazzling in the light of a million camera flashes.

The announcement of the prom court is truly the most wholesome moment at prom as seeing the court’s faces as they get called up is so sweet.

The night continued with more dancing and smiles all around. The 2024 senior class council has a lot to be proud of as this prom was not only a beautiful event but also a night to remember!
