I think oftentimes other people and I fail to recognize the complex lives our peers live. We often see the people around us as who they are at school, from the classroom to the court. However, each and every Louisville girl is three dimensional - possessing talents, passions and desires that may not be seen at first glance.
Louisville girls are nothing short of talented and this idea extends far beyond these royal blue gates. Both Kate Ben ’26 and Ailee Nishi ’25 are not just stars of our musicals and choir but also on social media. Both of these women have accounts dedicated to their love of music.
Nishi said that she has always been singing, and when she was in middle school she did not explore it as much because of embarrassment. But once Covid hit, she was locked in the house, and found her way to instagram, covering songs and posting them. She has found her place in the spotlight on the Louisville stage with her starring roles in our musicals and even acting in our plays.
Nishi even used her instagram singing account as a part of her ASB campaign. She compared having a singing instagram account to how athletes often have an instagram account dedicated to their sports, posting things such as highlight reels or wins. To Nishi, singing is not just one of her many talents but rather one of her passions.

Kate Ben also has an instagram, a songwriting account where she publishes her original songs. Ben is able to explore her creative songwriting skills as well as singing talents on this account. Ben too, is a star in our productions and she is also a school leader as the sophomore class president.
Both girls represent the pursuit of their passions, an inspirational message to all. Social media can oftentimes be reduced to a toxic environment yet it is also a space for creativity to blossom. They are both able to improve their skills as well as showcase their talents on their respective accounts. I think that Louisville students should explore their own talents like Ailee Nishi and Kate Ben have. Maybe we have the next generation of leaders, artists and athletes among us.
