This year, Crespi basketball welcomed a special addition to the team: retired NBA player Derek Fisher as the newest head coach. With him taking the position this year, Crespi has already started dominating the game.
The Crespi Varsity team has had a successful season thus far, playing in multiple tournaments before their league as well. They had their season opener in the Paul Sutton Tournament against Oakwood on November 14. The game ended with a strong win from Crespi of 69-45, where Joe Sterling ’26 got 21 points and Nickon Daei ’27 scored multiple three pointers throughout.
They won their second game 68-67 against Village Christian with 49 of those points being scored between Peyton White ’25 and Joe Sterling ’26. Later, Crespi put another win under their belt against Chatsworth High School. A special shoutout to twins Isaiah and Carter Barnes ’27 for making a combined 20 points in their 97-78 win.
Their next game against Windward in the Mira Costa Beach Bonanza was another big moment for Joe Sterling ’26 who scored 35 points out of their 72 to 60 win. Their fifth game of the season was also their fifth game won, with no losses.
A special mention for their win against Marantha in the last game of the 21 Annual Rose City Classic Tournament on December 1. It was a game well fought, especially for Shaun Kowlessar ’25 who broke their 46-46 tie with a three point basket. With a 72-60 win, they moved their win streak to 8-0 after winning their other two previous games against Mayfair and King Drew. They had an extremely close final game of the tournament against Pasadena, where they lost 53-50.
The Crespi boy's varsity basketball game
Crespi had their first league game against El Camino Real on December 6th. It was a runaway victory for Crespi with a score of 77-36 as their varsity team set their standard for this season. Their second game of the league was once again a huge victory for Crespi against Faith Baptist 83-43, taking the league by storm already with a 10-1 streak.
The varsity Crespi basketball team has many amazing players with talents that could carry them to college. Grayson Bradford ’25 has already committed to Princeton University for Basketball, Peyton White ’25 has an offer from University of Missouri Kansas City. Joe Sterling ’26 has several different offers from USan Francisco, UWashington, UMissouri Kansas City, UIncarnate Word, Grand CanyonU, UC San Diego and UPortland.
Crespi’s success so far this season is looking a lot like a CIF championship win in the future. With five CIF championships to their name, a sixth one seems pretty likely.
Their next home game is on December 19 against Brophy College Prep at 6:00 p..m. Come and support your Crespi brothers out on the court!
