"Yes, Chef" I did cook food from movies and TV

If a character has ever eaten something in a movie, there’s a chance you wondered what it tasted like. For me, I’ve always wondered what the spaghetti tacos tasted like from “iCarly” or the charred grilled cheese from “The Devil Wears Prada,” so I decided to make dishes from movies and TV shows that I have always dreamt of tasting.

The first dish I’m recreating is the omelet from season two of “The Bear.”

“The Bear” is a dark comedy show about a struggling restaurant with overqualified chefs. In the second-to-last episode, the character Sydney makes an omelet with potato chips and chives. I definitely went through a phase where I was convinced I was going to become a chef after this show, so here I am attempting to make one of the more simple dishes from the show.

This omelet calls for:

3 beaten eggs

garlic and herb Boursin

chives

butter

potato chips.

I first melted 2 tablespoons of butter. Then, I poured my eggs over the butter (I recommend using a little less butter because my eggs were swimming in butter.) After the eggs were cooked slightly, I crumbled the Boursin down the middle and let it fully cook.

Once I rolled up my omelet, I plated it with a sprinkle of chives and potato chips to give the omelet a little crunch.

This omelet was to die for–the eggs were perfectly fluffy, the cheese gave it a rich flavor, the chives gave it a tad bit of freshness and the potato chips were an interesting touch. This was the best breakfast I have ever had and I am, again, convinced that I am on master chef level after this.

The finished product of the omelet from "The Bear."

“Tangled” is the best Disney princess movie. As a child, I insisted that my grandmother take me to see it in theaters three times and then subjected my family to a singing Rapunzel doll. There is one scene where Mother Gothel says that she got the ingredients to make Rapunzel’s favorite food–hazelnut parsnip soup. I always thought that sounded interesting, so I took this as the opportunity to make it.

The main ingredients are:

parsnips

potatoes

with a sprinkle of crushed roasted hazelnuts

and truffle oil.

I simply boiled potatoes, parsnips and seasonings with vegetable stock. After 40 minutes of cooking, I blended the ingredients together to make a soup and poured it into bowls. Then, I sprinkled the soup with hazelnuts and parsley with a light drizzle of truffle oil.

This soup has a very rich taste and can only be eaten a little at a time, but it is delicious. I had very low expectations because I don’t love parsnips, but I can definitely see how this brightened Rapunzel’s day while she was cooped up in that tower because the creaminess of the parsnips mixed with the crunch of the hazelnuts is perfect.

These meals were to die for and you can easily make these and so many more. Just go to The Royal Newspaper website: theroyal.louisvillehs.org  to find these recipes!
