Louisville is a vibrant place full of student activity, where diverse voices come together to create a sense of community and sisterhood. Among these voices is the Black Student Union (BSU), a group dedicated to providing a space for African American students to connect and share ideas.
Led by AG Arnold '24 and Katriel Nwene '24, the BSU is making waves with its commitment to empowerment and diversity.
"We decided to make the BSU because we wanted to create a space for African Americans at our school. There aren't many of us at Louisville, so we felt it was important to have a club where we could talk and share ideas with each other,” AG stated when asked about the inspiration behind the BSU.
BSU meetings take place on Thursdays in room 9, with Ms. Lowe as moderator. These meetings provide a platform for students to discuss issues, plan events and find a sense of community.

AG also highlighted an upcoming event:
"We have the BSU ‘Black Panther’ movie night on February 16, which will be a great opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate black culture."
Looking towards the future, Arnold and Nwene have bright goals and ideas for the BSU:
"Hopefully, we can get girls who would want to continue the club when Katriel and I graduate," said Arnold, "Our long-term goal is to have everyone grow closer and really understand why having a BSU is important at LVHS.”
"If you're interested, you should 100% join because there is no setback. We are happy with everyone,” Arnold added.
The Black Student Union stands as a testament to the power of student activism and the importance of creating spaces where everyone is seen and heard. As Louisville High School moves forward, the BSU serves as a place of empowerment, unity and change.
Make sure to mark your calendars and show your support for the Black Student Union's showing of “Black Panther” on Louisville’s Senior Lawn on February 16!
