Just around the corner from our beautiful Louisville High School campus is the Calabasas Farmer’s Market. It is where local small businesses and producers get an opportunity to sell their goods to the community. I have made it a goal of mine to step outside more on weekend mornings, and taking a trip to the local farmer’s market was the most perfect way to do so.
Every Saturday morning, from 8am to 1pm, the Calabasas Farmer’s Market takes place. Here you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, cold pressed juices, baked goods, savory sauces, handcrafted pieces of art, jewelry, clothing and so much more. The vendors are set up around Old Town Calabasas, specifically surrounding the restaurant, Pedalers Fork, a delicious staple to grab a bite at for brunch.
When I arrived at the market, I was amazed by all of the vendors. You can truly tell how hard they work and the love and care they put into their goods. Everywhere I walked I was caught by colorful creations, delicious smells and kind greetings from the vendors.
While I bought from various companies, there were three that caught my attention specifically: Chaupain Bakery, The Crazy Cucumber and Melrose Flower Boy.
Chaupain Bakery
When I walked by the stands, it was the first one to catch my gaze, as it had a line circling the vendors surrounding it.
Chaupain Bakery has the most beautifully curated pastries I have ever seen, and the taste makes them ten times better. My friends and I shared the Strawberry Cheesecake Croissant, the Nutella Croissant and the Fruit and Creme Croissant. Out of all the croissants, the strawberry cheesecake was our favorite, however, each one was delicious and unique.
Chaupain Bakery is a French-inspired company located in the Orange County area. While their locations are about an hour from us, we are lucky to have them sell their baked goods nearby. I am looking forward to trying more of their pastries in the future, and I definitely recommend stopping by if you are ever at the market.
The Crazy Cucumber
Personally, I am a pickle fanatic, and these pickles are a whole change to the game.
With many unique flavors to choose from, like “buffalo ranch” and "jalapeno lime,” The Crazy Cucumber is the place to be if you are a pickle lover. Based in central Ohio, this family-owned company comes a long way to sell in Calabasas. I purchased the “extra hot garlic” flavor and have been snacking on them ever since!
However, it was the community aspect of this vendor that truly stood out to me.
While I was waiting in line, I overheard a conversation about the tip given by the customers and how grateful the employees were for such a generous gift. It truly projected the humanity in the community of such a small town’s farmers market.
Whether you are a pickle lover or hater, I highly recommend you stop by, try some samples and say hello to the friendly staff.
Melrose Flower Boy
The last purchase I made at the Calabasas Farmer’s Market was at the most adorable Los Angeles based flower stand. This flower vendor caught my eye like many, due to its vibrant colors and crowd within the tent. The energy it gave off was truly special.
With many flower bouquets to choose from, you will find your perfect pick. The employees were extremely friendly and even wrapped up our flowers in brown paper to that aesthetically pleasing look. Yes, I bought myself a bouquet of flowers, and you should too!
Overall, my experience at the Calabasas Farmer’s Market was amazing. I met so many amazing people and tried many amazing foods as well. If you are ever looking for something fun to do on a Saturday morning, I highly recommend you go check out this market.
It is so important to support small businesses and fun to do so as well. The Calabasas Farmer’s Market is the perfect place to be!
