Leading up to Conan Gray performing for the second time in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum, I questioned: will the cinematics be as good as the last one? Will he make this one even better? Will he bring a surprise guest out on the stage? There were many questions I was excited to find out the answers to.
Last year it was his last concert on that tour and was completely sold out. The energy was high because it was his first performance in Los Angeles and it was overall incredible. Everything about it was perfect and made me ecstatic about future concerts.
When Olivia Haber ’26 told me he was performing again, I got excited about how this concert was going to be. I saw the setlist for the Wishbone World Tour and got even more excited knowing that a lot of the songs from his last tour were going to be performed again. My excitement grew more and more as the days came closer to the concert.
The concert was on March 20 at the famed Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. I saw that the show was sold out again which made me excited for the energy in the stadium. As I walked into the arena, every seat was filled and everyone was clearly anticipating his entrance –this is when I knew the concert was going to be amazing.
As he started singing his first song “My World,” you could see him ride a bike onto the stage with an amazing set design, including a windmill and fake corn fields. After a few songs, it changed to him laying in a bed with steam surrounding him. Then, in another set, he was in a boat. Each set was amazing and he was extremely creative in the way he interacted with them while singing.
Not only was the set design great, but so was the cinematography. On the screen he was projected in black and white—at one point they made a double of him to fit the song “Memories.” This made it even more engaging for the audience who may have not been as close to the stage.
The audience was screaming the lyrics to each song and eventually shined their phone flashlights to sway along with the slower songs. The vibes for the concert were amazing and the high energy filled the room.
As the concert was coming to an end, he sang one of his first songs ever, “Comfort Crowd.” He eventually played his unreleased song “The Best," from the Wishbone Deluxe Album that comes out on April 24. This was still not the end of his surprises for the audience, which truly made the experience more special as it was extremely interactive. Additionally, Conan Gray brought out American actor and singer, McKenna Grace who picked the song “Yours” for him to sing. When he started singing this song, you could feel everyone’s emotions.
By the end of the concert all my questions were answered. Everything about the concert was amazing and he did even better than last year. I did not think he would have so many surprises in this show and make it even better than the last time he performed. The way he put so much effort into his show and performance showed how much he appreciates his fans as well as truly loving what he does. I can’t wait to see what his future concerts will be like and if he will continue to improve each year.
