Surfer riding the waves at malibu pier
What did the ocean say to the shore?
Nothing, it just waved. :-P
Are you looking for some new beach spots this summer? Well lucky for you, we are so close to the most beautiful beaches in Southern California!
Zuma Beach is a fan favorite across many people in the valley and surrounding areas. With a total of 14 towers, Zuma stretches wide across the Malibu coastline. The waves are the perfect size to splash aro
und, surf, boogie board or swim in. The sand is warm and perfect for sandcastles, and you can find unique rocks at the shoreline.
Parking is usually $6-$8, yet free parking on the side of PCH is an alternative choice. Sadly prices go up in the summer. Across the street is Vintage Market, with amazing food and shops to explore.
Also, the Malibu Country Mart, one of my favorite places to spend a day at, is just a 15 minute drive south. While Zuma is a popular and well-known beach, it certainly is one of the best around.
If you want a perfect sunset view, secluded ocean access and nearby cafes, then Point Dume is the perfect place for you. This spot in Malibu is by far one of the most beautiful places on the coast of southern California.
On the north end of the cliff at Point Dume is The Sunset restaurant, featuring delish seafood and coastal views, and a large strand of beach that merges into Zuma. The sights on top of the bluff are incredible, you get a gorgeous panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. Many movies including “Planet of the Apes” and “Iron Man” have been filmed here as well.
This historic point in Malibu is definitely worth the drive, whether you want to grab a coffee and walk the sand, or have a picnic along the cliff during sunset.
If you aren’t so keen on swimming but love the atmosphere of beaches, Malibu Pier is a great place to go, with food and drinks as well as many surfers riding the waves. Sitting on the beach with a drink in hand whilst watching surfers dive in and out of waves is definitely an experience we recommend.
There is a $10 fee to have access to the enclosed parking, however, there’s plenty of parking available on the side of the street for free. The pier is perfect for either a meal at the Malibu Farm restaurant or a sweet treat in the cafe beside it.
You can also buy essential beach items such as sunscreen, towels and flip flops in a little shop nearby if you forget any. Although sometimes touristy, the crowds remain small, making it the perfect spot for a calm afternoon.
Although you may not have heard of this beach because of its distance, Dockweiler is known as the perfect spot for bonfires. With over 80 public fire pits available it is the perfect spot to watch the sunset with a group of friends. All you need to bring are logs, which are sold on site, and a lighter. This beach is located near El Segundo which is a small beach town with lots of food options, as well Playa Del Rey which is surrounded by shops and cafes.
There is lots of parking available for $8 (those prices may vary in the summer) as well as RV allocated spots. This beach is a great hangout spot if you’re looking for a change from usual beaches.
Whether you are just finding out about these spots or have been there before, we hope you visit these beautiful beaches in SoCal this summer. Remember to always be considerate of the ocean and mindful that you leave it the way you found it. Take in all the beauty and have fun!
