The best cafeteria has gotten better

This year, there have been many new changes on the Louisville campus such as the updated cafeteria. In contrast from last year, the cafeteria now has a pre-order system online and credit cards in addition to school ID cards and cash for payment.

There are now designated lines for different payment options. One of the biggest and most exciting changes to the cafeteria is the menu. In a survey taken by fifty-nine students, the majority of the school had positive comments on the new payment, ordering and line systems, and some felt conflicted or that some options did not apply to them.

“I like how there are many lines and you can pre-order. It makes getting your food so much easier” Grace Nelson ’27, expressed. Many other students agree with her. However, there were numerous comments on the limited amount of vegetarian options. Students also expressed their opinion of the new payment options. There were also a lot of differing opinions on the use of Apple Pay.

“The option of Apple Pay is amazing and really convenient” Sophie Newton, 25.

“Well, we can’t use our phones so it doesn’t make a difference” Emma Farkas 26 said.

There were also debates on whether the lines, that have been a conflict, are fixed, or have gotten longer. When asked about the lines, about half said they believe they have shortened. Some think that they have even gotten longer than last year. This would not be surprising given the new intake of students.

“Some days it is, some days it is not. Which is sort of the same from last year,” explained Madeline Sarrow ’27.

Many students have also commented on the increase in prices; Mr. Wilson explains that the increase in cost this year is due to new additions to staff and the inclusion of credit cards and online ordering. He clarifies that the cost increase covers those additions to the cafeteria and that the increase is in fact very small. He also noted that the school did not want to increase tuition to cover the new cafeteria costs because not all students buy food on a daily basis.

After speaking with the cafeteria staff, they explain that working in the kitchen can get a little overwhelming sometimes, and it is hard to figure out what students like and dislike, but overall they really enjoy the new menu and are managing well. The cafeteria said that there are some new menu items to look forward to and as well as taking some of the recommendations requested via the google form.

The cafeteria staff also disclosed that they will be coming out with new coffee flavors and other exciting top secret goodies to come! Students enjoy the kindness and helpfulness of our cafeteria and love talking to them while ordering their favorite snack.

But there is still one question that has gone unanswered. What is the cafeteria staff’s favorite menu item? Similar to many, it is, of course, the chicken tenders and fries!
