If you’re a student at Louisville, you’ve surely heard the word “sisterhood.” But at the Sophomore Unity Ceremony, this word truly came to life. On February 28, the sophomore class of 2027 gathered in St. Louis Hall for a special celebration of the unbreakable bond between Louisville girls. With a performance from a student band made up of sophomores Kiki Scheurer, Mia Romano, Erika Huanca Vargas and Elyse Ramirez, several powerful speeches and a lunch, the sophomores made memories that will last a lifetime.
Dressed in their best attire to fit the Enchanted Forest theme, sophomores and their parents filed into the hall, which was beautifully decorated with trees, fairy lights and lots of flowers to set the scene for a magical celebration. At each table, there were beautiful flower crowns for the girls to wear. As the sophomores took their seats, they sipped delicious glittery soda that perfectly complemented the floral aesthetic of each table.
After Sister Donna opened with a beautiful prayer, the ceremony began with a meaningful speech from sophomore class president Anya Fierson. She talked about what it means to be united as a class, with each sophomore’s unique traits making us many yet one.
Next, everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch consisting of salad, garlic bread and two types of pasta served by parent volunteers, as well as other options for students with food restrictions. To top it all off, there was a wide variety of desserts including cupcakes, cookies and various other pastries.
After a fulfilling lunch, the actual ring ceremony began. Sister Donna blessed the rings, and Dr. Aguilar said a few words about the meaning behind this Louisville tradition before reading off the names of each sophomore. Each girl received a flower and a pin, and those who purchased them received their rings. Every pin and ring was unique, to represent the special talents and traits that each student contributes to the unity of the class of 2027.
Next, everyone sat down for a video presentation prepared by Kelly Capo ’27. Featuring photos from freshman year through the present, the video was a strong testament to the strength and inseparable bond of the sophomores. Capo ensured that every sophomore was shown in the video as each of us play a special part in our class. The video was a highlight for many, bringing back memories and filling the hall with laughter and smiles.
Finally, Perla Elbaz ’27 closed the ceremony with a lovely speech about what it means to “make your journey magical.” She shared that it is the people we connect with along the way that bring magic into our lives. This sentiment resonated with many sophomores, providing a sweet end to a memorable ceremony and leaving us with something to reflect on.
As everyone exited the hall and went back to their classes, the class of 2027 felt more connected than ever. The sisterhood that we experience is unlike anything else in the world, and the ceremony reflected this feeling. It was truly an enchanted celebration.
