The fashion trends of 2024 perfectly embody a sense of design and movement, but are they only trends? Will leopard print and lace hair bows make a permanent mark on the fashion timeline, or will they fade from the public eye in just a few months?
Teenagers have always been the main influence over popular fashion during any age. We are the main voice over what looks good, and what should never be worn by anyone ever again. So, what do today’s teens have to say about 2024 fashion?
“My favorite trend right now are the fold over boots, I feel like these are just so cute with a skirt or a dress. It’s definitely a micro trend though, so it’s going to go out of style; but I’ve seen so many girls who pull these off and it’s so cute!” shared Peyton Gunther ’28.
Many popular brands have included baggier clothes, particularly jeans, in their latest product drops. Brands like H&M, Garage, Brandy Melville, Hollister, American Eagle and Aritzia have all released many lines with either wide leg jeans or open ankle sweatpants in a variety of colors. The abundance of these pieces have been what attracts so many teenagers to the brands.
“Baggy jeans are relatively comfortable and really stylish. Pacsun and H&M are splendid for getting jeans.” added Pia Sullivan ’27.
My personal favorite trends are the mixing of metals, flared jeans or leggings and off-the-shoulder sweaters. The combination of gold and silver jewelry, popularized in the 80s, has become popular once again. Along with layering necklaces and stacking rings, which are trends I hope never go out of style. Flared pants along with off-the-shoulder sweaters are comfortable and easy to incorporate into an outfit. These pieces add a lot of dimension to an outfit while also looking effortless and simple, which are aesthetics that have risen to popularity recently.

Whether shopping at Brandy Melville, Ed Hardy or Hollister, the more simplistic and comfortable styles have had a really big impact on today’s fashion. The graphic tees, lace-cut tops and baggy sweatpants are going to be symbols of style for 2024. I suppose we’ll see if they’re staples or dated pieces in people’s closets a couple years from now. I for one hope that Gen Z’s baggy clothes and streetwear looks will last forever, because the hand-me-downs for the next few generations would be nothing short of iconic.
