If you are not a senior, you most likely remember reading “Lord of the Flies” in your freshman year English class here at Louisville. Be sure to grab your specs and get ready to crash land into our upcoming stage adaptation of Lord of the Flies from November 22 to November 24.

If you are unfamiliar with the story, Lord of the Flies is about a group of English boys who crash land on an island and have to figure out how to survive. The play is filled with emotional turbulence and will leave you on the edge of a cliff at times. There will be two casts, sun and sand, so if you have a friend in the show ask them which days they perform.

If you are still debating why you should go see the show here are some words straight from the cast:

“It is a very interesting story that relates to humanity and how it functions in difficult situations and is well told and very deep” shared Mia Rosenzweig ’26 who plays Roger in the sun cast.

The production is spearheaded by our very own Mr. Dan Mailey and led by stage manager Ella Sutherland. This is Mr. Dan’s 12th year with Louisville and he believes that this is the perfect play for right now. With its “political symbolism” in the words of Robyn Bowling of the sand cast, it is sure to make an impact on your minds. “I think it’s really relevant right now. With elections and everything, there’s a lot of parallels in this play. I think since it will be running after the election is done, it will be even more interesting to see what happens.” added stage manager Ella Sutherland ’25.

When you go and see the show, here are some things the cast and crew think you should keep an eye out for. Sutherland’s favorite stage piece is “the pig”, prop of choice for assistant stage manager Joe Vappie ’26 is   “the conch.” Mia Rosenzweig ’26 wants you to watch out for her portrayal of Roger and his “ability to adapt to his surroundings” and Natalya Sarac ’27 who plays Simon on the sun cast is excited about being the “most peaceful of the boys.”

Don’t miss this gripping adaptation of Lord of the Flies—it’s sure to be a performance to remember!
