Basketball had their first season home game as their senior night, an odd occurrence, but special nonetheless. Varsity and junior varsity fought hard against Notre Dame High School, with the varsity team taking the cake in a 62-40 score final, a big win for a big night. Their game was smooth as they played hard and worked together effortlessly.
Seniors Eva Van Lokeren ’25, Jocelynn Townsend ’25, Toula Mitsopoulos ’25 and Chiara Ayuste ’25 played their hearts out, but in the end left everything on the court. The crowd was electric the entire night, not for one second were they quiet, except for the Royals’ free throws. With countless cutouts and posters of the seniors, it was a night of family and friends coming together to support the star players of the Louisville basketball team. The junior varsity team helped lead the student section in loud cheers, giving support to their sisters battling it out on the court.

The varsity team after their win
When a Notre Dame player got knocked down, a Louisville girl was there to help her up, and when a teammate was on the floor, a helping hand and supportive slap on the back was given. It is very clear the strong connection between the players, and the secret handshakes as the starting lineup was called truly showed it.
After every basket Townsend and Van Lokeren made, there was at least one celebratory chest bump or the hardest high five I have ever seen. Mitsopoulos played aggressively and with power, racing across the court. Ayuste did amazing defense, taking the ball back for her team and helping get multiple baskets.
The way they zipped around the court was unforgettable, in addition to many rebounds and impressive passing between the teammates.
The Royals’ defense was impenetrable, completely locking down Notre Dame and blocking shots like nobody's business. Niya Johnson ’26 was a complete wall, stuffing multiple shots along with Townsend and Van Lokeren. Khali Sowell-Mitchell ’26 got so many buckets Notre Dame did not know what hit them. Isabella Escribano ’27 was always there to receive a pass and made some beautiful buckets, along with Mylee Lott ’26, playing an integral part to every point made. Alia Miranda ’27 brought life to the court, making graceful passes that earned her team multiple points.
After a well-earned victory, an abundance of photos were taken with senior sashes, framed jerseys and sweet speeches by the rest of the team.
Yitsa Prevas ’26 brought tears to every seniors' eyes, making sure each of them knew the impact their leadership had on everyone, getting them through the hard times and being a part of their best memories.
Captain Eva Van Lokeren received many praises for the care and support she gives her teammates in the form of reassurance and guidance on and off the court.
The night ended with sweet memories and inside jokes between sisters. The chemistry the team has is an amazing sight to see, always lifting each other up. Congratulations to the Royals basketball team, who dominated the league this season, and good luck with the rest of your season and playoffs!
