With the track season well underway, Louisville’s runners have already competed in multiple meets, using each race as an opportunity to improve their speed, endurance and technique. With upcoming competitions on April 2 and April 9, the team is looking to build on their performances and push for new personal bests.
For many runners, each meet is more than just a race against competitors, it’s a race against their own limits.
“The meet I’m most excited about is the Angelus League Prelims because it’s where I tend to do my best, knowing I could advance into the final round or even possibly qualify for CIF,” said Mary Nalchadzian ’25.
Beyond physical training, mindset plays a huge role in success on the track. Ellie Miles ’25, who is competing in her final season, emphasizes the importance of mental toughness and supporting teammates:
“I want to be more engaged and supportive at meets and run at least one second faster than my normal time,” Miles said. “My advice to younger runners is to get past the mindset of ‘I’m too tired, I can’t do it.’ Yes, you can, you are capable.”
This season, team bonding has also been a major focus. Louisville and Crespi runners often compete together, but in past seasons, they have not always connected. That’s something the team is determined to change.
“We’re going into this season knowing we’re in this together, we’re a team, and we have to support each other,” Miles said.
For underclassmen, this season marks their first taste of high school competition. Zasha Aberin-Jackson ’27, who competes in the 100 and 200 meter races, is enjoying her introduction to the sport and the camaraderie that comes with it.
“I’ve really been enjoying my first high school track season. It’s been a great experience getting to know my teammates and pushing myself in every race,” said Aberin-Jackson. “My favorite part is the energy at meets. Everyone is so supportive, and I love interacting with people, whether it’s during warm-ups, cheering each other on or just having fun before events.”
The encouragement from teammates and the excitement of competition have made her first season a memorable one.
As the season continues, our Louisville athletes have given it their all, aiming to improve and support each other every step of the way. With big meets coming up on April 2 and April 9 at Crespi, don’t miss the chance to see these athletes in action, come out to cheer on the team and be part of the excitement!
